Trump campaigns in pivotal Erie days after fresh charges filed

Campaigning in crucial northwest Pennsylvania this weekend, Donald Trump gave familiar remarks amid a not-so-familiar path to 2024.

Though Trump spoke in the same downtown Erie arena as he did in 2016 and 2018, it was against a new backdrop. Losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden and the four criminal investigations into Trump’s conduct — from his 2016 campaign to after he left the White House — are now central in his pleas to Pennsylvania voters for next year’s Republican nomination. | Pennsylvania Capital-Star

Harris asks Iowans to be vigilant in the face of a ‘full-on attack’ on freedom

(Screen shot from White House video)

Vice President Kamala Harris stopped in Des Moines on Friday to call on Iowans to fight back against what she called a “full-on attack against hard-won freedoms.”

During an hour-long stop at Des Moines’ Drake University, Harris focused on the Iowa Legislature’s recent passage of a law – stayed, for now, by the courts – that seeks to ban access to virtually all abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy. Harris said it’s important to remember that in a democracy it’s not unusual for the rights of some citizens to come under attack, and so Americans must always remain vigilant about protecting those rights. | Iowa Capital Dispatch
