In the wake of former President Donald Trump's most recent indictment for allegedly attempting to subvert the 2020 election, fellow Republican contestants for the 2024 presidential nomination renewed criticisms of the federal justice system.

  • Former Vice President Mike Pence said in a statement that the indictment is an important reminder that "anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States."
  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote on X that he would "end the weaponization of government, replace the FBI Director, and ensure a single standard of justice for all Americans,” though he acknowledged he had not yet read Trump's indictment.
  • Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson told NPR that he believes Trump's hold on the Republican Party will loosen as the campaign season goes on following the series of indictments.

In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s most recent indictments, his opponents in the campaign for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination railed against the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice at a fundraising event Sunday for U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson.
